Alexis Mahdavi is a multi-talented French/Iranian home flipper, designer, and real estate expert who has found his creative haven in Dubai since 2002. Alexis's journey began in Montréal, Canada, during his formative years, where he immersed himself in the world of architecture and urban design at the prestigious Université de Montréal. Alongside his studies, he pursued his passion for writing by working as an editor for esteemed international and local magazines such as Architectural Digest Middle East.
Simultaneously, Alexis also ventured into the realm of fashion, collaborating with renowned brands including Christian Louboutin, Bally, Berluti, and Etro, honing his eye for detail and style. With an innate love for the digital landscape and the realms of architecture and design, Alexis seized the opportunity to merge his passions, embarking on a journey of conceptualizing and writing design projects. In 2021, he decided to return to the UAE, focusing his time and expertise on the Middle East region. Collaborating with esteemed companies like Sonder and local real estate firms, Alexis has played an instrumental role in numerous design projects, ranging from renovations and home flipping to crafting exquisite holiday homes. What measures do you take to ensure your clients' happiness?
As a designer, you become a sort of a 'voyeur'. Take a restaurant, for instance. You study its operations, functionality, and how people engage with it. You play the master manipulator in the space you are designing. For example, I believe that designing is a responsive profession, you have to watch human behavior and create something in response to that bevavior. How would you define your design process?
Typically you start to enhance your skills by creating a little bit of a design library in your mind. You do derive inspiration, but essentially, it’s all about storytelling in a strong sense of context, textures, layers and space. It’s not just one element; it’s multi-layered |
How did you start?
From my earliest memories, I recall eagerly seizing every car ride as an opportunity to immerse myself in the world of architecture. Peering out the window, I would attentively observe and analyze the external facades of buildings and meticulously designed landscapes that unfolded before me. With uncontainable enthusiasm, I would gesture with my hands, envisioning the changes and alterations I would make to these spaces. Even as a child, I was captivated by the enchantment of buildings, homes, and interior environments. This passion became the catalyst that illuminated my path, propelling me into the industry and igniting my desire to bring my unique vision to life. Where are you from?
