Welcome to my home! I am already three months into this little abode of mine. Since moving in, I haven't had to take care of a single thing and that is thanks to Sonder. The apartment has been single handedly designed and outfitted by Sonder inc., a San Fransisco-based hospitality company around nightly rentals that feel like apartments but have the consistency and quality of a hotel. From the 24/7 on-demand concierge service to the mini toiletries and fresh towels/linens, Sonder offers the consistency and service of a great hotel that actually doesn't come in a typical hotel format, but surely with a feeling of warmth and comfort for a space that can feel more like a home. With over 2,200 units in over 11 cities in the world including Montreal, London, Miami, and New York, the company has created its own collection of furniture for hotel-grade couches and beds, but ones that match the West Elm-meets-local look. My apartment has been inspired in a way to resemble West Elm's style with a touch of a locally known furniture store in Montreal, called Structube giving it an edgy vibe. Of course, each Sonder has been designed differently, but to match its own space and environment and although some may be too eccentric (which I would prefer), people can fully see through pictures online, the decor and art placed in each unit ahead of time, to assure a choice or a style that would suit them best. Published in Forbes Magazine, Elle Decor, and HGTV Magazine, Sonder stands by its motto for #TakingStayFurther. Each of Sonder’s thousands of spaces across the globe is purposefully selected, designed and maintained directly by Sonder. No two Sonders are the same. Each space is uniquely distinct and consistently excellent, customized to reflect the vibe of its neighborhood. According to the CEO Davidson, "We seek out the perfect furniture, art and objects for everyday living. And if we can’t find it, we design it." Marriott as well as other hotels are now also seeking to experiment the same concept with furnished and hotel-designed apartment rentals around the world, inspired by Sonder. One of the main reasons I fell in love with this particular unit aside from the "loft" experience, was the couch in the living room and the unique midnight blue color it addresses. I think it's very unique and original, something you wouldn't necessarily find in most apartments... a risky choice I would say. The pillows in the bedroom are pastel pink and the golden patterned wallpapers are absolutely to die for! Every furniture piece is Structube-vibed and bring a specific dimension to the space's environment. I wouldn't change a single thing! Simply put, this room needed to be cozy. Like insanely cozy. As should any bedroom be but even more so. One of my favorite gifts this year was the Anthropologie bedding. I think anyone would be floored by this gift and it truly made the room feel so special. But one of the troubles with this room was lighting. Now, being a blogger, lighting is everything for pictures and selfies and seeing as we painted an accent wall a pretty dark color, I really urged to light up the room. Alas, if it wasn't a rental I would have loved to hang a gorgeous chandelier but it's fine since the windows make up for it. On another note, for the bedroom I can give you one vital piece of advice... Invest in some bedding that you really truly love. It will make waking up in the morning that much cozier and happier. Moving on to the kitchen... The kitchen is fully stocked with a cute dining area behind the island with cool chairs that give a rustic yet modern style to the space. Actually, the open-space allure is another thing I appreciate from this particular Sonder, since I literally turn claustrophobic to closed doors and rooms. The artwork is contemporary and chic. Kate Moss featured in the living room is definitely on of my favorites because oh well - who doesn't love Kate Moss!? And the stroke of yellow from the hallway painting definitely adds another pop of color into the space, aside from the velvety midnight blue couch. Overall, the designer has done a great job choosing the ideal colors to match one another, and create a unique space that screams its own name. "We’ve designed and outfitted every Sonder space for living, not just staying. A room that’s more than a room. Comfortable beds, nice linens, soft towels, and well-chosen amenities and essentials. We also made the service really simple. If there’s anything you need, just text us, 24 hours a day." claims boutique rental start up, Sonder Inc. Each Sonder is customized with art and furniture to reflect the cultural vibe of the city. If we can’t find pieces that fit, we make it ourselves. Currently, we have thousands of Sonder spaces across cities in North America and Europe. When you stay in a Sonder, you’re staying in a space that we lease, design, furnish, and maintain. There’s no middleman. It’s not someone’s house. It’s a Sonder. You’ll always know what you can expect before you walk in the door. (Sonder Inc, Forbes Magazine 2018) In addition, the apartment has big floor-to-ceiling windows, a walk-in closet and a private patio with its own separate entrance from the back on a lower-surfaced level. The entire space has a gold-themed decor with an eccentric velvet touch in the living room as well as in the bedroom. The space is beautifully crafted and filled with patterns and texture. I also love the books and decors placed in each room. I actually never read but it's great to make people think you are smart :) When I'm home the living room is where I spend like 80% of the time and when I'm working on a blog post or any kind of creative computer work I'm usually on the couch in one position or another so having books around is pretty motivational. In theory, I needed the living room to be functional, creatively inspiring and a place where I could just veg out watching Netflix or working on personal projects and/or school stuff so the setup is actually perfect! While I dream of having a formal living room, these are mostly tips for a smaller house or apartment. I'm all alone and I've got one living space and it kind of has to be a Swiss army knife.
